WAPDA Employees protest against Power Houses & Discos privatization:
ISLAMABAD (Tuesday, November 1, 2011) : In all over Pakistan WAPDA workers took out large scale protest demonstrations against the proposed privatisation. In Multan Protest was held in front of MEPCO Head Quarter. A Large proceesion of Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Plant employees also attended the protest.
The employees of Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) protested against the proposed privatization of power distribution companies (Discos), Geo News reported Tuesday.
IESCO officials along with the engineers and labour unions gathered outside the head office and protested against the privatization of WAPDA. The labour union said the protest is taking place in the entire IESCO region and all employees except the emergency staff are taking part in the demonstrations.
The protestors demanded the government to end loadshedding and decrease power rates.
While protesting in Lahore, the protestors blocked the Mall Road.
Labour Union chief Rasheed Ahmed Khan said that privatization would not solve the problem as power is already expensive and short.
Union leaders said that the entire country would face black out if the decision to privatize WAPDA is not revoked.
