QUA Sex Case – Farzana Bari says committee means to hush up issue

ISLAMABAD (June 23, 2011) : Annoyed by the constitution of a new committee to probe into the case, rights activist and Chairperson Gender Studies Department QAU Farzana Bari said she does not believe that the committee is impartial. “Few months ago, I requested VC QAU to form an internal committee to deal with such cases in light of the Sexual Harrasment Bill.
He appointed me the convener of that committee but no formal notification was issued and now this unfortunate incident ocuured,” she said.
Bari said this new 4-member committee consists of two those members who are also the members of that committee she convenes. Being a human rights activists, I would not let the QAU administration hush up the issue.
Asked about the suspicion of a plot of defaming the controller examination, she categorically denied it.
“It is one in a million that a female use such tactics for her own benefit but this student is educated and well-informed. I am sure the female student was victimized by the accused as passersby heard her shrieking”, Bari said. She said she was sure that the committee would in connivance with the administration would try to hush up the matter. This scribe repeatedly tried to contact the accused to obtain his version but he did not attended the phone calls.
