QAU Islamabad admin terminates guilty faculty members
ISLAMABAD (July 23, 2011) : Quaid-e-Azam (QAU) University administration on Saturday fired two faculty members after they were found guilty in the report of probe committee about their involvement in harassment of female student at varsity premises reported a month earlier.
According to sources, a four-member inquiry committee constituted to probe female harassment cases submitted its report on Saturday to syndicate of QAU in which the victims demanded an immediate removal of both accused.
Sources Daily Times the syndicate members were also recommended to register an FIR against both culprits controller examinations Sardar Muhammad Babar Khan and a lecturer of Information Technology Department Noor Mustafa Awan, who according to probe committee, are guilty.
The report of inquiry committee will not be made public till Friday (July 29). Sources said Dr Aqeel Jilani has replaced Khan as acting controller examinations.
The 156th meeting of syndicate held on Saturday was headed by QAU VC, while Sherry Rehman, ex-federal minister for information & Broad Casting, Justice (r) Fakhrun Nisa, Prof Qasir Mushtaq, Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, QAU, Prof Waseem Ahmad, Department of Biochemistry, Dr. Muhammad Ishaq, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, representatives of the Presidency, HEC and Registrar QAU participated in the meeting.
According to sources, the inquiry committee apprised that Khan, involved in first incident of sexual molestation of a female student on June 17, was not of fair character as number of such complaints went un-noticed against him from female students. The committee members further said that in 2009, Khan was allegedly involved in sexual harassment of a female student but that was successfully smoked internally.
The victim of first incident, a student of Natural Sciences during the proceeding said that she was not willing to visit controller examinations room but he himself invited her to his room to solve the degree issue. “He invited me and than locked the room and molested her and I hurriedly shrieking made my exit,” she said.
On other similar incident involving Noor Mustufa Awan, a lecturer of Information Technology Department with a female student of ITD on July 8, the inquiry committee members said that Awan’s flawless character was tarnished on the day as they found that he committed the assault.
The victim according to sources said that she considered Awan a person with good moral values in the whole faculty but he put himself down by committing that crime.
Both victims, on the occasion, demanded registration of FIR against both culprits and be punished accordingly to set an example not to repeat that act in university premises. In reply to this, QAU VC said QAU administration would not spare these criminals but they (the victims) must lodged separate FIR to their own.
Yasinzai told syndicate members that QAU was working on adopting Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in the campus under which no faculty member is allowed to lock up his official room, no female student would be allowed to go alone in teachers’ and escorted with her other class mate and students were allowed to consult staff members for resolving any academic issue.
Talking to Daily Times the alleged controller examinations said that he was in this profession for the last 25 years and not a single complaint was registered against him. He said all allegations put on him were fabricated as the administration of QAU wanted to remove him from that post and appoint their favorite persons. He said if justice was denied to him he would go to court.
Talking to Daily Times QAU VC confirmed that both alleged officials of QAU were found guilty in molesting of female students and QAU administration but he refused to comment on the termination of both the varsity officials and said the inquiry report would be made public on coming Friday (July 29).
