Public Sector Univarsities employees threaten to go on strike
PESHAWAR (Tuesday, September 20, 2011) : Employees of the public sector universities here Monday set a three-day deadline for the varsities’ administration and federal government to ensure payment of the 15 per cent increased salaries to them and in case of non-payment threatened to go on strike.
The decision was made in a general body meeting of all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the universities convened by the Federation of All Pakistan University Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA).
The meeting was attended by a large number of the universities’ employees.
FAPUASA Central President Prof Dr Fida Mohammad, Provincial Head Dr Johar Ali, Engineering University Teachers Association President Siddique Akbar, Teaching Staff Association Islamia College University President Dr Ziaullah Sehrai, Universities Employees Federation President Abdul Ahad, Class-III Association President Muzakkir Shah and Class-IV Association President Imdad Khan also attended the meeting.
The participants of the meeting condemned the vice-chancellors of the public sector universities for their alleged failure to ensure payment of increased salaries to the employees.
They threatened that all the universities would be closed down for all academic and non-academic activities if the quarters concerned failed to ensure disbursement of increased salaries to them by September 22.
