Lahore: Workers protest against privatisation of Pakistan Railways, Post Office & PIA
Railway Workers Union & National Trade Union Federation staged a protest at the Railways Mughalpura Carriage Shop and took out motorcycles rally that terminated at Punjab Assembly building charring cross against the plan of privatization of the Pakistan Railways, Post Office, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and sacking of workers in the name of rightsizing.
Protestors were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the corruption of the PR management and their callous attitude towards the workers. They chanted slogans denouncing all efforts aimed at privatization of the PR and the sacking of thousands of workers. The protestors on motorcycles reached the Punjab Assembly where asked the parliamentarians to take action against corruption in the PR management ranks. The corruption, they said, was eating up the PR from inside like termite. The protest was lead by Mian Mustansar Javed, Inayat Gujjar, Sarfaraz Khan, Farid Awan and Niaz Khan.
Speakers said that the PPP Government is leading the country towards the abyss of destruction, and that the rulers were only interested in power and money. They demanded the provision of minimum wage of Rs 7000 to every worker besides calling for abolishing of antiworker clauses of the Industrial act (IRA). They demanded establishment of the National Industrial Relations Commission under the 18th Amendment.
Protestors also staged a token sitin in front of the Punjab Assembly and blocked the traffic for over an hour.
