Karachi – Zardari approves salary increase for Sindh police

Karachi (July 18, 2011) – President Asif Ali Zardari on Monday approved an increase in the salaries of the Sindh police, bringing them equal to those of the Punjab police. The decision was taken in a meeting held between the president and the Sindh police chief, Wajid Durrani, at the Bilawal House.
The issue of increasing the salaries of the Sindh police had been in the doldrums for the last three years. In his 2008-09 budget speech, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah had announced that the pay of the provincial police would be made equal to that of the Punjab police.
In a late-night meeting on Monday, Inspector-General of Police Durrani presented a summary seeking a raise for the police to the president, who approved it. Talking to The News, IG Durrani said that he had been trying to get a salary increase for his force for quite some time. He said the decision would be implemented within 15 to 20 days.
He thanked President Zardari for increasing the salaries of the police, saying that it was gift from the president. He hoped that the pay rise would boost the morale of the police force and improve their performance.
In their reaction to the decision, police officials told The News that it was a good achievement of the IG. They said the raise would help check corruption among the force. They said a Rs20,000 plus salary would also help the policemen in making ends meet as they would now be able to afford the basic necessities of life.
Meanwhile, Zardari directed the provincial administration to complete the development projects on time and ensure peace in the province, particularly in Karachi. The president also provided guidelines to the provincial administration for maintaining peace and warned that no leniency would be tolerated in this connection.

The personal who are retired from police services are also entitled for the increase in pension reasonably, as the increase in pension benefit was also given to police pensioners in Punjab and Khayber Pukhtoonkhaw . Mr. Asif Ali Zardari , the President should issue directions for increase in pension of retired police personals.
