World Postal Day today (October 9, 2011)
LAHORE (October 8, 2011) – The 138th “World Post Day” will be celebrated in the world including Pakistan today (Sunday).
Functions, celebrations including presentation of Universal Postal Union (UPU) documentary would be held at major post offices of the country. GPO Lahore will also organize a special ceremony on the occasion.
World Post Day was being celebrated every year on October 9, to commemorate the anniversary of the establishment of UPU in 1874 in the Swiss Capital, Bern. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo Japan in 1969. Since then, countries across the world used the occasion to introduce and promote new postal products and services. Postal services may issue special postage stamps to commemorate the ideals, history or achievements of the national postal service on World Post Day.
