YDA Stike in Punjab – Doctors to face arrest as deadline expires

Lahore (Saturday, June 30, 2012) – Deadline given by Punjab government to protesting young doctors expires today on 30-06-2012

YDA Press Conference

Young doctors ignored Punjab government’s move to invoke the Essential Services Act, as they observed a strike and boycotted duties at the Outdoor Patient Departments (OPDs) of public hospitals on the 13th consecutive day on Saturday.
The Punjab government on Thursday night had invoked the Essential Services Act for a period of one month in a bid to ensure uninterrupted healthcare for the poor patients. However the young doctors blatantly ignoring the warning continued their protest.
As the deadline expires today, the protesting doctors are likely to be arrested after cases being filed against them.
In Faisalabad, young doctors took out a protest rally instead of treating poor patients. The young doctors locked the OPDs in Multan and boycotted duties. Similar protests were seen in several other cities of the province.
The young doctors vowed they will continue their strike till the formation of service structure and threatened to shut emergency if demands not met.
