YDA Punjab Strike – Protests outside hospitals starts
Lahore (Tuesday, June 26, 2012) – Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, on Tuesday, started holding protest demonstrations simultaneously with ongoing strike in Outpatient Departments (OPDs) of public hospitals in Punjab to press for service structure.
The young doctors held a protest demonstration in front of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Tuesday as the YDA had announced to hold demonstration in front of one teaching hospital each day to put pressure on the government for fulfilling their demand of implementation of service structure. They also blocked the Queen’s Road for a short period of time.
Carrying placards and banners inscribed with their demands, they chanted slogans against the government for denying service structure for them. However, none of the government or Health Department representative approached them for negotiations.
The young doctors’ strike in OPDs continued for the ninth successive day as protest against the government’s alleged indifference towards their demand, which caused immense hardships for patients and their attendants. Doctors posted in emergency wards said that the load of patients had increased in the emergency wards. Meanwhile, the Punjab government and health authorities failed to make any breakthrough to reach a consensus for solution to the problem. The YDA will hold protest demonstration in front of the Children’s Hospital on Wednesday June 27, 2012.
