Supreme Court orders reinstatement of  Hadeed Welfare Trust (Pakistan Steel)  employees

Islamabad (Wednesday, October 31, 2012) – Supreme Court of Pakistan tuesday issued orders for reinstatement of sacked employees of Hadeed Welfare Trust (HWT), a subordinate department of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM).

A division bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Jawwad S Khawaja resumed the hearing of the case against the Sindh High Court decision on restoration of HWT workers.

The court while directing the restoration of HWT employees disposed the case. The HWT workers were sacked under the 29 August, 2008 notification.Justice Iftikhar in his remarks said the PSM is the property of the government and it has its own laws and regulations which cannot be ignored. The chief justice asked the PSM administration that whether the educational institute of PSM is being closed down.

Justice Jawwad S Khawaja said the HWT is the fragmentation of an imagination of the PSM.The admin officer of the PSM told the court that gardener and sweeper are being paid more than Rs8,000 monthly salary.
