Govt employees salaries raise 15%, Pension 15-20%, Conveynace Allowance 25%
ISLAMABAD (June 3, 2011) : Federal Government Friday announced a 15 percent raise in the salaries of government employees besides merging ad hoc relief allowances given till July 1, 2009 with pay scales of 2008.
Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh also proposed 15 to 20 percent raise in pensions with the announcement that pensioners who retired on or after July 1, 2002 may be allowed an increase at the rate of 15 percent and those who retired on or before June 30, 2002 may be allowed an increase at the rate of 20%.
The decision for a 15 percent rise in salaries of government employees was taken at the cabinet meeting held here at the Parliament House with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani in the chair, prior to the budget session of the parliament.Originally, the government had decided to merge ad hoc relief allowances received till July 2009 but at the cabinet meeting it was also decided that government employees’ salaries would also be raised by 15 percent.
In the budget for fiscal year 2011-12, the government has also proposed relief to pensioners of the civil and military and announced that pensioners who retired on or after July 1, 2002 may be allowed an increase at the rate of 15 percent and those who retired on or before June 30, 2002 may be allowed an increase at the rate of 20 percent.
Also, the existing conveyance allowance may be increased by 25 percent for employees in BPS-1 to 15 and their equivalent in the armed forces. All civil servants and personal of the armed forces may be allowed conveyance allowances at the prescribed rates irrespective of their place of duty.
Similarly, there is also a proposal to increase other allowances for employees from grade one to fifteen. In a major decision, the government announced compulsory monetisation facility to civil servants in BPS-20 to BPS-22 of the federal government. After this decision, instead of availing official cars and perks and privileges for keeping a car, baboos from grade 20 to grade 22 will now get an allowance for this purpose adjusted in their take-home salaries.
