Government decides to regularise 1,000 contractual employees

Islamabad (Saturday, February 2, 2013) – A happy new for ERRA employees, who are waiting for regularization of theit service for many years. With the date for implementation on court order expired on January 30, the federal government has now hastily decided to regularise 1,000 contractual employees of eighteen ministries, divisions and Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and notification in this respect is expected to be issued in next few days, the sources told ‘The News’ here on Friday.

A high official confided to ‘The News’ that Islamabad High Court (IHC) on December 31 ordered the federal government to regularise the services of around 1,000 contractual employees of different ministries and government departments within one month.

“So an emergent meeting of Cabinet Committee on Regularization of contract/daily wages employees under chairmanship of Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah, who heads the committee, was held in which it was decided to take steps in line with the court orders,” he said.

He said the participants of the meeting have formally given approval for regularisation of 1,000 employees who have been rendering their services for more than one decade in different government departments. “It is not an act to oblige employees keeping in view the upcoming general elections but a compulsion.”
