Federal Govt announces public holiday on Begum Nusrat Bhutto’s demise
KARACHI (Monday, October 24, 2011) : Former chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and First Lady, Begum Nusrat Bhutto died at the age of 82 in Dubai on Sunday after suffering from protracted illness. Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani has announced public holiday today (Monday), Geo News reported.
The PM has announced ten days mourning across the country on the demise of Begum Nusrat Bhutto while PPP would be observing 40-day mourning.
The PM cancelled all his official engagements due to the death of Begum Nusrat Bhutto. He also cancelled the federal cabinet meeting scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
Following the public holiday announcement, all the courts, banks, offices and educational institutions would remain closed while colleges and universities have cancelled the scheduled examinations after holiday notification by Sindh government.
Business activities in Sindh have also been halted to observe the mourning day.
The PPP Sindh leadership has called off all the party activities while black flags have been hoisted on all PPP offices.
After the news of Begum’s sad demise, party members from across the country have started reaching Garhi Khuda Bux to take part in burial ceremony.
President Asif Ali Zardari, who was on an official visit of Jordon, has arrived in Dubai. The body of Begum Nusrat Bhutto would be flown today to Larkana in a special plane after noon.
