ISLAMABAD: In the second phase of promotion of auditors’ the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday upgraded the post of Inland Revenue Auditor (IRA) from Grade-14 to 16 on concurrence from the Establishment Division and Ministry of Finance.
The FBR has already upgraded the posts of over 350 Inland Revenue Audit Officers (from Grade 16 to 17). Now, over 370 IRAs have been promoted taking total promotions of auditors to over and above 720.
In this regard, the FBR has issued a letter to the Accountant General of Pakistan on up-gradation of pay scales of the IRAs controlled by Revenue Division.
Talking to Business Recorder Altaf Hussain President Inland Revenue Auditors Association (IRAA) said that the Board had recruited over 700 Inland Revenue Auditors (IRAs) in two batches. The last batch was recruited in 2001 through the FPSC. In spite of the fact that the post of auditor has very central position in the hierarchy of the field formations, it was placed at unmerited rank in the organisation. Therefore, the post was considered to be highly incommensurate with the qualification and job description of the incumbents. In the past few years, over 200 experienced and highly qualified Auditors left the department in pursuit of better careers.
The recent move by the Board is highly appreciable, as it will curtail the high employee turnover, which cannot be otherwise afforded in the current stage of tax reforms. It would also pave way for effective implementation of the Reformed General Sales Tax which is supposed to bring many new sectors to the tax regime, requiring highly qualified and experienced and motivated human resource to change the existing tax culture and to achieve the confidence of the tax payers’ community.
The up-gradation has been greatly welcomed by the employees. Altaf Hussain Nissoana, President and Rao Asif Saeed Secretary General IRAA have shown gratitude towards Sohail Ahmad, Chairman FBR, Muhammad Haroon Khan Tareen, Chief Management, FBR for their personal efforts in the up-gradation. They assured them their enduring support to achieve the vision of the FBR under their visionary leadership.
