Al-Fatah group wins EWA elections of AIOU

Five Groups Contested Elections
Islamabad (APP / Sunday, July 14th, 2013) – Al-Fatah group has won the Employees Welfare Association (EWA) elections of the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) conducted peacefully at the Academic Complex of the university.

An election committee headed by Physics Department Chairman Prof Zafar Ilyas and Students Affairs Director Mian Muhammad Aslam supervised these elections,” said a news release issued on Sunday.

Following 5 Groups Contested Elections:-

1- Al-Fatah

2- Al-Hilal

3- Al-Itifaq

4- Muhaz

5- Pasban

Mulazim Hussain Qureshi of Al-Fatah Group won the election for the president seat by securing 442 votes.

Other newly elected office-bearers of the Al-Fatah group are: Vice President Muhammad Yousuf (438), General Secretary Muhammad Amjad Hashmi (438), Joint Secretary Ilyas Khan (430), Finance Secretary Muhammad Asif Awan (434), Information Secretary Bilawal Khan Laghari (449), and Coordination Secretary Ghulam Fareed (432).

New EWA President Mulazim Hussain said, “He would work for the betterment of the university.”

He expressed his gratitude to the university’s administration and the election committee for peacefully conducting the election process.

In his message to the new office-bearers of the EWA, AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmed Sangi assured his full support to them for their genuine demands.

He said the employees of the AIOU had set a good example by completing the election process in a democratic manner, without disturbing the normal office’s work.

He assured that he would always be available to take necessary steps for the employees’ welfare and address their genuine problems through negotiation.

He hoped that the new office-bearers would devote their energies for upgrading the status of the university and looking after the overall interest of the students and the employees.
