Double Pension Contempt of Court Case in Lahore High Court – Notices to Chief Secretary and Secretary Finance Punjab

Lahore (Tuesday, February 23, 2016) – Yesterday Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued contempt notice to Punjab government in a petition regarding payment to the pensioners. A number of pensioners from various departments of Punjab had filed hundreds of petitions seeking payment of their pension.

Their counsel Afzal Shaheen Pirzada argued that the Supreme Court and LHC had also ordered the department to pay the retired employees their cumulative pension. “But the finance department was delaying the payment for no specific reason, which amounts to court’s contempt,” he added.

The counsel requested the court to order proceedings against the officials for not complying with court’s order. Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah of LHC passed the order and adjourned further hearing until March 18.
