Rawalpindi: Punjab Young doctors expect 100% pay raise

Young doctors, serving as medical officers, postgraduate trainees and house officers in various hospitals of Punjab, are expecting over 100 percent pay raise after finalisation of recommendations by the special committee constituted to resolve the issues being confronted by them.
The special committee, which held a meeting on Friday to finalise recommendations, was constituted on the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif. The committee comprises MNA from Rawalpindi Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, MNA from Lahore Bilal Yasin, MNA from Multan Rana Mehmoodul Hassan, MPA Dr. Saeed Elahi, MPA Dr. Asad Ashraf, Punjab Health Secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad and the finance secretary.
The Punjab Young Doctors Association representatives in the committee include Dr. Syed Nasir Abbas from YDA Lahore, Dr. Muhammad Haroon and Dr. Usman Ayub from YDA Rawalpindi, Dr. Mazhar Ali from YDA Multan, Dr. Suleman and Dr. Imran. The Punjab Young Doctors Association has demanded pay protection to young doctors upon regularisation, increase in salaries of young doctors and increase in seats for postgraduate trainees and house officers in hospitals as well as vacation of the Rawalpindi Medical College hostel from the NAB.
“The special committee held its final meeting on Friday wherein it was assured that the young doctors would be given increase in salary as per their demands,” said President YDA Rawalpindi Chapter Dr. Muhammad Haroon while talking to ‘The News’ on Monday. He added that the committee has finalised its recommendations for submission to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Chairman Planning and Development Muhammad Sami, health secretary, finance secretary, MNA Bilal Yasin and MPAs Dr. Saeed Elahi and Dr. Asad Ashraf. The YDA representatives put their demands before the meeting where in it was also decided that the pay protection formula would be implemented for young doctors whose salaries were got reduced on regularisation, said Dr Haroon. He added the committee has also recommended that the seats for postgraduate trainees would be increased and a merit-based formula for their induction would be framed. He said that MNAs Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, Rana Mehmoodul Hassan and Bilal Yasin have already assured the young doctors that they would be given over 100 per cent increase in salaries.
