Paramedics call off their strike that continued for a month
Lahore (Breaking News /June 10, 2012) – Punjab Para Medical Staff Strike has ended after a month. Announcement was made after conclusive talks with Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif at camp office in Minar-e-Pakistan on Sunday, June 10, 2012.
The paramedical staff staged protests across Punjab for the fulfillment of their demands including revised service structure, health professional allowance and regularisation of contract employees.
The angry protesters closed down the out-patient departments (OPDs), indoors and other departments of the hospitals to record their protest against lack of interest on the part of the health department to resolve outstanding issues of employees and also threatened to close ICU and emergency on June 11 if there demands were not met.
However, after Sunday’s meeting with Punjab CM, Malik Munir along with other representatives announced to call of their strike.
During the meeting, the Punjab CM announced a monthly professional allowance of Rs 1,500 for the staff falling between scale I-IV while ordered to form a committee for the revision of service structure for employees of Grade IV-XVI.
Shahbaz Sharif also assured regularization of employees in the meeting.
