Lahore (Monday, April 25, 2011): DELEGATION of Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore met Health Secretary Jahanzeb Khan on Monday and apprised him of the issues being faced by doctors especially in view of their strike in hospitals for special pay package.
The delegation comprised PMA Lahore chapter President Dr Tanveer Anwar, Dr Akhtar Rashid Malik, Dr Izhar Ahmad Chaudhry, and Dr Shahid Malik, Dr Azeem ud Din Zahid, Dr Kamran Saeed, Dr Ibrar Ashraf Ali and Dr Salman Kazmi. Special Secretary Health Waseem Mukhtar was also present on the occasion.
The delegation demanded that the Punjab government should announce a special salary package for all cadres of doctors, a regular service structure with time scale promotion needed to be announced for doctors and that the implementation of the summary of regularisation of 1800 PGMOs, and contract doctors be done immediately, promotions be done from grade 18 to 19 & 20 and ex-Pakistan leave to be given to the doctors. PMA demanded that all appointments be done on seniority cum fitness & merit.
The Secretary health assured PMA that the Health Department agreed to all the demands of the PMA and these issues would be resolved on priority and it would be done in consultation with PMA.
