LAHORE (Thursday, May 5, 2011): The Pakistan Medical Association’s Punjab chapter has announced strike at outpatient departments of all public hospitals of the province from May 13 for the acceptance of their demands, especially the one related to their pay package.
PMA Punjab President Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami told the media on Thursday the government was using delaying tactics in notifying the package promised to doctors and this delay ‘forced’ doctors to take an ‘unpleasant decision’ of strike at hospitals.
Young Doctors Association’s Punjab chapter has already announced strike at hospitals from May 11.
Nizami set the May 13 deadline for the government to consider doctors’ demands or get ready for closure of indoor departments of the state-run health facilities during the second phase of strike. He said PMA was representing all cadres of doctors and its strike would have a very high impact.—Staff Reporter
