Lahore (Monday, April 18, 2011): Pakistan Pharmacists Association (PPA) on Monday held a protest demonstration on The Mall for increase in salaries and recognition of the profession as important pillar of healthcare in the country.
The protesters were raising slogans and holding banners and placards inscribed with their demands. They were calling for service structure and pharmacists equivalent to doctors, rather than classifying them with the paramedics. They said that pharmacists was a recognized profession in the developed countries of the world, while in Pakistan most successive governments had ignored pharmacists. They said that theirs was the longest and toughest undergraduate studies, adding that pharmacists intervention was extremely important for achieving effective cure for the patients.
