Doctors and nurses will be sent to dengue hit countries: CM Punjab
Lahore (Saturday, October 08, 2011) – INDONESIAN Ambassador to Pakistan Ishak Latuconsina met Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Friday and exchanged views regarding eradication of dengue virus. Member National Assembly Perviaz Malik, Member Provincial Assembly Kh. Saad Rafique, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretary Agriculture, Secretary Health and Commissioner Lahore were also present.
Talking to the Indonesian Ambassador, the Chief Minister said the people of Pakistan especially Punjab were thankful for the help extended by the brotherly Islamic country of Indonesia in the hour of trial. He said the Indonesia had sent a team of its best doctors and paramedical staff which was apprising doctors in various hospitals of its skills and experiences in the provision of curative facilities to dengue patients. He said the Punjab government was utilising all available resources for controlling dengue virus and a short, medium and long term policies were being formulated for this purpose. He said the doctors, nurses and technicians were being selected who would be sent to Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Sri Lanka for training.
Secretary Health and Secretary Agriculture, giving details of the measures for eradication of dengue virus, informed the media that high dependency units had been set up in hospitals while an effective surveillance system had also been adopted. They also thanked the Indonesian Ambassador for extending encouragement at this testing time besides visiting various hospitals.
Indonesian Ambassador Ishak Latuconsina said the Indonesian government considered it its duty to help the brotherly Islamic country in the hour of need. He said Pakistan had also extended all-out support to Indonesia in every moment of trial. He said the steps taken by the Punjab government against dengue virus were commendable. He also assured further cooperation in exterminating dengue virus.
