Punjab Young Doctor Association (YDA) on Thursday decided to call off its 39-day strike after having talks with Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
According to Express 24/7 correspondent Muhammad Rizwan, the chief minister decided to form a six-member committee to work out a pay package and structure for the young doctors, after which all the doctors have started returning to hospitals.
The committee will consist of Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, seniour minister Sardar Zulfiqar Khosa and Pervaiz Rasheed, representing the government along with three doctors.
Both parties, the doctors and the government agreed on a time frame of one week to come up with the package.
Earlier in the day, the doctors had decided to restore emergencies while it was decided that the indoors and outdoor departments will remain closed. However, now all departments have been restored.
The decision to restore the emergency had been taken by the Young Doctor’s Association in Lahore on the occasion of World Health Day.
Sharif had welcomed the young doctors’ willingness to restore emergency services earlier.
As a show of appreciation, he had ordered the restoration of all suspended doctors. Sharif said the doctors have proved their sincerity to humanity.
