SUKKUR (September 8, 2011) : International Literacy Day was observed here on Thursday and in this connection a procession was taken out by the district officer literacy from the press club to the Government Primary Main School at the Minara road.
A large number headmasters, headmistresses, teachers, students and representatives of different NGOs participated in the procession led by EDO (revenue) Sumair Ahmed Syed.
Addressing the protesters, Mr Sumair stressed better education and training of students and all out efforts for elimination of illiteracy from the country.
He advised teachers to treat their students politely because undue punishments forced children to flee from educational institutions.
He urged teachers to play positive role to help students become good citizens. District Education Officer (Elementary) Din Muhammad Soomro and District Education Officer (Literacy) Ghulam Mujtaba Dayo also spoke on the occasion.
They said that nations develop with better education, training and discipline. They advised students to take interest in their studies and asked teachers to fulfil their responsibility in educating their students.
In Jacobabad, a procession was taken out by teachers and students.
