KARACHI (Sunday, April 10, 2011): Federal Minister for Interprovincial Coordination Mian Raza Rabbani and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on Sunday agreed to convene a joint meeting of vice chancellors of all the universities in Sindh province to woo them on Higher Education Commission (HEC)’s devolution plan to provinces, SAMAA reported on Sunday
Federal Minister Mian Raza Rabbani met Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House here and discussed devolution of the HEC along with other federal government departments to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment as well as other related issues.
Raza Rabbani said the process was underway to devolve the HEC to the provinces. The funding to all universities would continue. The students, who are getting education abroad under scholarships, would not be affected, he added.
He claimed that the meeting of vice chancellors of universities on Saturday fully backed the devolution of HEC also appreciated the performance of the Implementation Commission on the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
Mian Raza Rabbani told the Sindh CM that so far 10 departments have been devolved to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment while the process was underway for devolution of more departments.
He noted that some 15 to 20 ministries would be devolved to the provinces under the 18th Amendment, by June 2011.
