Punjab Rangers Helicopter Crashed into Indus River near Layyah, DG Muhammad Nawaz & Five others Killed
LAYYA (Wednesday, June 1, 2011) : A helicopter of Punjab Rangers crashed into Indus River near Layya area of central Pakistan, SAMAA reported on Wednesday.
According to initial reports, Punjab Rangers’ helicopter started journey from Dera Ghazi Khan and it was heading to Peshawar.
Director General of Rangers Major General Muhammad Nawaz and five other officers were on board with pilot Aamir in the crashed helicopter.
Another helicopter has been sent from Punjab Rangers’ Multan base to the crash site for rescue efforts.
There is no official information available about the survivors yet but some eye witnesses have informed that they saw few survivors getting out of crashed helicopter.
Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik contacted DPO Layya and SHO of the area on phone and instructed to reach on the site immediately along with the expert swimmers for rescue efforts.
Teams of Rescue 1122, DPO Layya, SHO of area and rangers’ officials have reached at the crash site.
Fedral Interior Minister is constantly in contact with the officials while rescue efforts continue for the recovery of DG Rangers and others from Indus River near Layya.
